The meaning of words in the vacuum cleaner world

As in all the industries, the world of the vacuum cleaner possesses its own jargon. On data sheets, we find an astounding quantity of information, terms, and specificities which, sometimes, release us completely. Let us try to see if we can find themselves there without a migraine assails us.

At first the air watt?? Technically here is the definition: the air watt, it is the combination(overall) of the depression (suction) and the debt of air in diameter indicated by opening or by the opening. Or more simply, the power of the suction of your vacuum cleaner according to the diameter of your hose. It is thus connected directly to the power of your engine which equips your device. What brings us towards the amperage, because who says amperage, says power.

The amperage, it is the electric strength of the current. Thus the more the amperage is brought up, the more the engine has some power of suction. Yet in the vacuum cleaner industry, a canister vacuum cleaner possesses a motor of 8 even 9 amperes on average. For a central vacuum cleaner, it goes around 10 amperes. Now, it is necessary to understand that a vacuum cleaner cannot have a 50-ampere power, for example, because the power supply would not support it; the power of suction of an  8 or 9 amperes motor is good enough to get through your daily tasks.

The water lift: here is the darkest and badly understand notion in this industry and that is often confused with the air watt. The water lift is a technique which aims at quantifying the power of suction. In fact, we calculate the distance (in inches or in cm) between the opening of suction and a quantity of determined water. The water sucked up, according to the distance, gives you the water lift. In fact, this notion is essential to understand the value of the suction of your device through the distance of its hose. So, your central vacuum cleaner can be very far in the basement, but your hose will always have the good sustain of suction, even on the first floor. So, it is recommended, for the purchase of a central vacuum cleaner, to seize this distinction well.

Now, the HEPA filter. Here is the acronym the most spread in the industry of the vacuum cleaner; we see it everywhere, especially where it should not appear! HEPA aims to be the acronym in English oHigh Efficiency Particle Attraction. The name HEPA applies to any device able of filtering, in a passage, at least 99,97 % of the particles of diameter upper or equal to 0,3 µm2.

What it is necessary to seize with this brand, if I can say so, it is the certificate associated with this name, which is the proof of its authenticity. Indeed, a certified technician will make a test and will deliver a certificate which gives evidence that the vacuum cleaner system wearing the mention HEPA meets well and truly the standards of this naming quoted above. Then when will come the time to get you a certified device HEPA, the seller should necessarily supply you the certificate of. And that cost money ! If you can buy an HEPA vacuum for 99$, ask yourself a few questions ! Otherwise, it is only letters affixed here and there to help sales. It is like having a “muscle car’ logo on a 4 cylinder vehicle!
