The battle of the floors
The battle of the floors

BLOG No.9

The cleanliness is easily noticeable on a floor. The old expression which says that we " could eat on the floor so much it is clean " is not meaningless. So it is important to understand that a clean floor does not mean that it is not contaminated by pathogenic as bacteria or viruses, etc. Yet, what is inconceivable is how much we are in contact with floors, much more than we believe it, and not only by the fact that we walk on. Let simply think as we put on our shoes, tie the laces of our shoes when the money or any other thing fall on the floor. Imagining that floors are not some kind of reservoirs for germs, as it's the case with door handles, is carefreeness.

For sanitation company, the best way to make sure that the floors which it cleans are not at all contaminated by pathogenic, is, of course, a good soap, but also a clean mop. But to go further, this tool should be used only for o a single job. That is why a code of color is great to make sure to avoid cross-contamination. What cross-contamination? It is simply to use a tool (mop, cloth rag, etc.) for several tasks. In a perfect world, we would not use the good old mop for washing the floors, but it would very too expensively cost to wash floors with some more advanced technologies (steam devices not to name them). For example, if a bucket is filled with clean water and added with a germicide soap, and the worker uses this mop in the toilet room, this tool should never be used in the other part of the office. That a good example of cross-contamination, because of germicides soap, so successful that they can, they cannot eliminate 100 % of germs. So the best way to avoid this type of contamination is to apply a code of colors. For example, we shall use a mop of precise color (no matter the chosen color) to clean only the toilet, and the different color to clean the other places. The same thing for the rags with which we work; we shall not use the cloth being of use to the clean the toilets to clean the dinner tables ...

This color code can seem exhaustive and ideal maybe for those who work in places like a hospital where the elimination of germs is very important, but the day is not very far where we shall have to see to it to eliminate more possible the infections everywhere it's possible, even at the work. The global warming coupled in the intensity of the trade all around the world will add new challenges in what touches the hygiene and the healthiness, and it is the sanitation companies that will be in the front line.
